THOMOND GATE LIMERICK WHISKEY EXTENDS ITS RANGE WITH CHATEAU KIRWAN CASK FINISH
Limerick Spirits Company launches a new French-inspired Irish whiskey with rich dark fruits and red berry flavours to add to the Thomond Gate Limerick Whiskey range using distinguished French vineyard Chateau Kirwan Casks
March 2023, LIMERICK: The latest release from Limerick Spirits Company is a testament to its commitment to excellence. This whiskey is made from a Single Pot Still Irish whiskey, first matured in Bourbon casks before being finished in beautiful Château Kirwan wine casks. The result is a rich and complex whiskey which pays homage to the links between Ireland and France as well as the bravery and leadership of the legendary figure of Patrick Sarsfield, 1st Earl of Lucan.
Nicholas Ryan, Founder of Limerick Spirits Company said, “We are proud to offer this exceptional whiskey to the public and look forward to sharing it with the world. Whether you are a whiskey lover or a history buff, we believe you will appreciate the unique flavour and aroma of red berries and dark fruits. We invite you to try a bottle, share with friends and join us on our mission to restore Limerick’s place in the world of whiskey.”
Château Kirwan is a historic winery located in the Margaux Appellation, Bordeaux, France, and was classified 3rd growth in the 1855 Medoc classification. The estate was established in the 17th century. It has a long history of producing high-quality wine and was named after Irish merchant and wine trader, Mark Kirwan, who was a significant figure in the Bordeaux wine trade during the 18th century. The connection between Ireland and France through wine trade has a long history, and Château Kirwan is a testament to this rich heritage.
The Thomond Gate release of Irish Whiskey finished in Château Kirwan casks, is a unique and special tribute to the historical links between Ireland and France. By using casks from Château Kirwan, Thomond Gate pays homage to the past to honour the long history of the wine trade between the two countries. This new release is a true celebration of the heritage and tradition of both Ireland and France and is a testament to the skill and expertise of the Thomond Gate team in creating truly unique and special whiskey.
Alongside this new release, Limerick Spirits Company is excited to announce a small reserve of 12 new Chateau Kirwan casks have arrived in Ireland destined to be filled with mature stock and new-make whiskey made using locally grown Limerick barley. For those interested in joining our mission and supporting our goals, there will be the opportunity to purchase one of these casks of our maturing new-make whiskey via our esteemed Cask Programme. This is a unique opportunity to own a piece of Limerick’s whiskey history and be part of our journey to restore Limerick’s place in the world of whiskey.

About The Limerick Spirits Company:
The Limerick Spirits Company was founded in 2019 with the sole purpose of
reinstating Limerick’s place in the world of whiskey at this time, Limerick was the
the only county in Munster without its own whiskey brand. In the last four years, we have
inspired a growing renaissance with the revival of the Thomond Gate Limerick Whiskey brand
in honour of the infamous Thomond Gate Limerick Distillery, which closed its doors a century
ago in 1919.
The Limerick Spirits Company is passionate about the art of whiskey making. As an independent bottler and bonder, they specialise in creating premium Irish Whiskeys, curated with award-winning distilleries and finished in a variety of casks sourced from around the world. Our goal is to craft unique whiskies, full of flavour, shaped by our passion, experience and commitment to superior quality.
Alongside independently sourcing and curating bottled whiskey, The Limerick Spirits
The company is extremely passionate about restoring provenance to its whiskey. We
have been working with award-winning distilleries to produce a classical style of Irish
Pot Still whiskey and since 2020 we have planted our very own Limerick barley with the first harvest coming of age early next year.
With the focus of growing the business, The Limerick Spirits Company has been
successful in securing investment from both the Limerick Enterprise Office and
Enterprise Ireland. We have also been supported by the New Frontiers program at
the John Hartnett Centre at the Technological University of the Shannon as well as the
the government initiative, Back for Business, for returning Irish citizens.
Alongside this, The Limerick Spirits Company is independently raising funds by making
available a limited number of casks containing this year’s new-make spirit, which has
been made using the local Limerick barley. With only a small amount of casks
available to buy, some have already been sold to whiskey enthusiasts around the
the world including the USA and Singapore!

accompanied by a subtle pepper spice. The texture is dry, yet oily and
mouth-filling, providing a warming and smooth sensation. Fine tannins
prolong the palate, leading to a finish that is suffused with graceful
notes of vanilla and toasted almonds, leaving a subtle and enchanting
aftertaste that invites elegance.
