Galloping Hogan Single Malt pays tribute to one of Limerick’s most daring historical figures — the legendary rapparee whose actions during the Siege of Limerick left an enduring mark on Irish history. Celebrated for leading the audacious attack on the Williamite siege train at Ballyneety in 1691, Hogan became a symbol of courage and defiance during one of Ireland’s most pivotal moments.
When the Treaty of Limerick was signed, Hogan chose exile over surrender, joining the wave of Irish soldiers who departed to serve in the French army. Their journey — later known as the Flight of the Wild Geese — forged a deep connection between Ireland and France. It is this chapter of Hogan’s life that inspires our choice of Cognac cask and French oak: a respectful nod to the country that offered refuge, purpose and a continued fight.
This 5-year-old Single Malt begins its life in ex-bourbon casks, developing a classic foundation of vanilla, oak and gentle sweetness. It then rests in select Cognac casks, where the influence of French oak lends depth, warmth and vibrant fruit character. The result is a whiskey that honours Hogan’s bold spirit while celebrating the historical ties between Ireland and France.
